Hackney four-piece Zola Blood have announced new single “Play Out” as the follow up to their highly celebrated 2014 debut EP “Meridian.”

Fresh from supporting Boxed In on their UK tour, the band have returned with the first of a two track EP. “Play Out” chronicles a late night meeting over a wave of tumbling synthesizers and pounding beats; a rich, denser sound than anything on the Meridian EP, the track draws from techno influences while setting the ethereal vocals of Matt West against a sea of vocal samples and arpeggios.

Recorded between London and Leeds with veteran producer Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Ghostpoet, Darkstar) the band had a room full of vintage synthesizers to play with during the creative process – “We wanted every sound on the tracks to be totally unique – we even put the drums through a modular synth.”

Following the release of their debut EP in 2014, Zola Blood have been backed by the likes of Fader, Majestic Casual, NME, DIY Magazine, The Line of Best Fit and 6 Music, subsequently becoming The Hype Machine’s # 1 most blogged about artist and going on to generate nearly 1.5m streams. With sell out shows at The Lexington and the Shacklewell Arms under their belt, as well as festival appearances at DimSwn and the Great Escape, the band will play Servant Jazz Quarters, London, on July 13 and Secret Garden Party on July 25.

“Play Out” will be released on Pond Life Songs on the 4th of September.
